Fortnite has not been available in Apple's App Store for a long time. However, there has recently been a way to play Fortnite on the iPhone or iPad : via Xbox Cloud Gaming.

You do not install the game on your device, but Stream Fortnite via the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad.

Which devices are supported?

The following devices from Microsoft for Xbox Cloud Gaming are officially verified :

iPhones *: iPhone XR, iPhone XS, iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Pro, iPhone 12 12 iPads *: iPad Air (3rd generation), iPad Air (4th generation), iPad Pro 11 2nd gene, iPad mini 5th gen, iPad (8th generation)

We tested it on a newer iPad of the 9th generation and that worked without any problems, although it has not yet been officially verified for Xbox Cloud Gaming.

Requirements for Xbox Cloud Gaming on Apple devices

To play Fortnite via Xbox Cloud Gaming on an iPhone or iPad , you need:

  • Free Microsoft account
  • Safari browser
  • Sufficient fast internet connection
  • Good WLAN network

Microsoft recommends the following internet speeds depending on the device:

  • iPhone: at least 10 Mbit/s
  • iPad: at least 20 Mbit/s

You should also use a 5 GHz WLAN network . It also works with a 2.4 GHz WLAN network, but Xbox Cloud Gaming is currently not optimized for this.

If you want, you can of course also play for Fortnite via Xbox Cloud Gaming via a mobile network . However, this consumes a lot of data volume and the gaming experience can be fluctuating depending on the location and connection quality.

How do I set up Xbox Cloud Gaming on iOS and iPados?

Start the Safari browser on your iPhone or iPad and open the website Xbox.com/Play. Click on “Play for Free”. In the next window you will be asked to add a shortcut to Xbox Cloud Gaming on your home screen:

  • Click on the part symbol in the browser and scroll down to the menu point “to the home screen”.
  • Choose “to the home screen” and click on “Add”.

Then open the cloud gaming shortcut on the home screen and register with your Microsoft account. If you don't have a account yet, you can create a new account at this point. As soon as you are registered, press “Play” and Fortnite.
